Portrait of a Puppy.

If you could think of the maddest combination of bonkers dogs to breed, a Siberian Husky crossed with a Border Collie would have to come fairly high up the list!

Both highly intelligent breeds and both very much in need of lots of time, attention and exercise. Meld the two together and pour into a 13 week old puppy... uh oh!! This was always going to be a lot of fun!!!

It was!!!! Carlo is bonkers, but in such a delightful, good-natured kind of way.

He's clearly exceptionally intelligent, not really surprising given his genes, but he's learned already how to channel it and his boisterous spirit to get best results... usually something ending in 'treat' or 'chew' or even just a good tickle behind the ears!

His parentage certainly helps, but so does his home life. He spends his days round at Dick and Pat's, in the company of his 'Uncle' Seamus... not really an 'Uncle', but a Border Collie nonetheless... but then neither is he one of those 'Uncles' who you grow up thinking are family and then discover are someone entirely different altogether! Not, I hasten to add, that we had one of those but I know some people who did... their secrets are still safe with me though!!!

The atmosphere in Dick and Pat's house is the epitome of tranquil. Peace and calm pervade every corner of their home and their characters. Dogs will always pick up vibes from the house they are in, and if Carlo is spending his formative months with Dick and Pat and his older, wiser, ever-watchful Uncle Seamus,

it's no wonder he's already so extremely placid and good-natured... if cavorting through the vegetable garden in a fluffy, bounding way could ever be described as placid?

I think it's very important when trying to get a portrait of a pet that you get to know about it, spend time with it and do what you can to capture the essence of it... what makes Carlo, well, Carlo? A mix of good breeding, a nice nature, and just a hint of mischief!

Puppy perfection!

Sian Rocks!

We had such a laugh with Sian and her mum Sandee a couple of weeks ago.

Sian is so full of fun and at just 10 years old (though nearly 11 now!) she didn't need any encouragement to be playing around with the drum kit or the electric guitars! None of us know how to play, (and I guess if you know anything at all about instruments, then you'll see in the photos that we clearly don't know how to play!), but it was all just for a laugh anyway.

Sian has the most amazing collection of clothes and we wanted to show off her style as well as her spirit. We started off with her jumping onto the beanbag to get things warmed up and to get her laughing, then it was a quick change and onto the drum kit.

A couple of electric guitars and a cloth cat later, we moved into fashion and set up as if backstage at a Galliano show... not that any of us have been backstage, front stage or anywhere near a stage at a Galliano show but hey, we were enjoying ourselves in our own fanciful way!

We rounded the shoot off with a William Morris print tapestry, Sandee joined Sian for a few shots, and then it was into the much-needed coffee and choccy cake!!

Thanks to Sian, Sandee and Niaesha for another great day.

Sian rocks!! :-D x

Adventures in Fairyland...

It's probably fair to say that you must know by now that I love my job!!!

Sunday was quite possibly the best, most entertaining, and most satisfying of all the photo shoots I've ever done. I had a true adventure in fairyland... fighting my way through waist-high nettles and brambles; clinging on to slopes beside a very deep and rather chilly stream; perched precariously up a 7ft ladder; and on my tummy almost under the runners of a very large rocking horse!!

Superb!!! That's why I love my job!

Sian is a young girl with a very strong future as a child model. She is awesome! So professional, full of fun and imagination, and so completely tireless, I love her to bits!!

We wove a story using her own clothes and props to show an 'Adventure in Fairyland'. Starting off outdoors, we went across to the neighbour's garden (with their very kind permission), and shot the first series down by the stream.

At least 4 foot deep by the looks of it, it also looked very cold and I seriously didn't want to go in, but nearly did... three times! The first time by accident, but the second and third times were actually by design!

What??? Utter madness!!!

I would have done it though, had I not been able to get to the bank on the far side. But, with a bit of determination... or maybe sheer bloody-mindedness in the face of the cold, wet and rather unpleasant alternative... I managed to create a path through the thickest, deadliest brambles and nettles you've ever seen. Ta daaa! Hmm... er, unfortunately, my view of Sian was then totally obscured by a branch with large fluttery leaves that waved about right in front of her!! Damn!!

Thankfully I had my new and very capable assistant Niaesha, who used a walking stick to hook the offending branch and hold it back out of the way for me.

Phew... saved from needing to get into the water again, thanks Niaesha!! We then headed back to Sian's own garden, where we found the wackiest but loveliest bird box I've ever seen!

Definitely a fairyland bird box!!

It was then up onto the balcony of the playhouse for some fun with the masks. Whilst very lovely, the balcony is, unfortunately, a very long way up. I needed a 7ft stepladder to get any kind of shots, and so in came Niaesha to the rescue again. The garden slopes slightly to the side, so Niaesha had to prop up the ladder to prevent me tipping off sideways and landing in an undignified heap on the grass! Instead of which, I still managed a rather undignified, slightly scared perch on top of the ladder... heights aren't amongst my strong points!

Having avoided ridicule and, it has to be said, injury (goodness knows, maybe even death!!!), we then moved indoors to get some studio shots.

Fantasy ruled and a fairy grotto was created using props gathered from around the house... including the toilet!! It has been said many times, by people far greater than me, that inspiration often comes from the toilet. Indeed it does!!

We also found a huge wooden rocking horse (no, not in the toilet)... and how else do we travel to fairyland than on a wooden horse?

Wonderful! So, all in all, we had a wonderful afternoon on our adventures in fairyland, and although it will take a while to process all the shots, I couldn't resist a chance to show you how much fun we had! Thanks to Niaesha, Sandee, and of course, a massive thank you to Sian :D

Hooray!! I'm so excited... I've just done a google check on my website name, I just typed in 'rt photographics'; I didn't add any more than that, no 'UK' or 'Scotland', or 'portrait photographer', 'headshots for actors', none of that... just 'rt photographics', and there it is, number 1 on the first page! Hooray!!!

So a HUGE thank you to everyone who has ever clicked through to my website, and for all of you who read my blog updates. I'm incredibly pleased and happy and excited, and it's all thanks to you!

Rain Nearly Stopped Play!

Well, we were supposed to be doing an outdoor family photo shoot but... yes, this is Scotland in the summer! Hmm, you guessed it... rain stopped play and so we opted for the dry comforts of my mobile studio.

As it turned out, we did well and got some lovely shots to celebrate a wonderful 40 years of marriage. We had children and grandchildren all together, a lovely surprise for the couple and surely the best and most beautiful emblem of their marriage.

A truly wonderful family, we were not only made welcome but a part of their special event.

We managed to get a variety of shots, from individual family members, to the entire group...

... and all at the same time as they were preparing for a party to start about 5 minutes after we finished!! It was pretty hectic, but we made it...

Phew!!!

Thanks to Selene for organising everything, and to Dan for helping, and special thanks to everyone who helped to make the shoot go so well and for letting us in when there was so much going on! You kept it flowing for us and we're so pleased you liked the results!

Thank you,

Rebecca, xx.

Glamorous!

The further happy tales of a portrait photographer...

A model, a make up artist, and a whole apartment all to ourselves...

Last Saturday saw myself and Hannah heading across to Dundee for a glamour shoot with Irena. We knew it would be a busy day and were armed with bean bag, flowers, a shedload of lights, stepladders, reflectors.... all the usual gear.

Hannah was along for her first shoot as a make-up artist, and this was my third shoot with Irena so I was confident we were going to have a pretty good girly fun kind of day! I wasn't wrong!! It was fab.

Irena had some amazing gem-studded false eyelashes, and a very good idea of how she wanted to look...

One of the things I love about Irena is that she puts so much into the shoot. She has ideas and we try them out and discuss them - real teamwork

With a whole apartment to ourselves there was no shortage of corners to shoot in, and we tried most of them!

We used the rooms upstairs to get some different angles and styles, and Irena had a set of outfits ready to try on that evoked a feel of more sophisticated glamour.

This inspired a series of shots to capture that atmosphere,

even on the stairs...

and into the bathroom, where Hannah pushed in some bubbles to create a fun but classic set.
Five costume changes, four hours, three girls, two lenses, one camera... job done!

One very happy photographer!! Thanks Irena and Hannah for your hard work that day,xx.
